After reviewing this issue, I have identified three ICD-10-CM codes used in the USA for lipedema. Each one has its pros and cons. The three are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R60.9\nEdema<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Q82.0\nFamilial Hereditary Edema<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E88.2:\nAdiposis dolorosa; Lipomatosis dolorosa (Dercum\u2019s disease)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An important strategy toward our goal of obtaining widespread medical reimbursement\nfor lipedema as reconstructive would be advocating that the ICD-10-CM committee\nadopt the German ICD-10 codes for lipedema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The German ICD10 codes for lipoedema (notice the difference in\nspelling):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E88.20 Lipoedema, Stage 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E88.21 Lipoedema, Stage 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E88.22 Lipoedema, Stage 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E88.28 Other or unspecified lipoedema<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I89.0 Lymphedema, not elsewhere classified<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* In the United States, we use ICD-10-CM (Clinical Modifications); it\nis a version specifically created for use in the United States. The E88.2 is a confirmed diagnosis (versus a sign and symptom code) but \u201cdolorosa\u201d are distinctly separate conditions from lipedema. The most important issue here is that without a specific code we cannot specifically track lipedema as a unique condition.
